Virgin Australia is celebrating the launch of the partnership between Velocity Frequent Flyer and Luxury Escapes with the type of present we like to see – a status match trial offer. It’s open to anyone who hasn’t held Velocity elite status over the last few years and holds Gold status or higher with ‘other Australian airline loyalty programs’.
Status Match: Velocity Discover Gold
Apply by: 11:59pm AEST, 15 September 2023 |
First, look at the offer details on the Velocity Frequent Flyer website. Here are the key details to know.
- You must not have held Velocity Silver, Gold or Platinum membership since April 2020.
- You must have Gold status (or higher) with ‘another Australian frequent flyer program’ in Virgin Australia’s words. We’ll spell it out for you – that’s Qantas Gold or higher.
- If eligible, email [email protected] with your name, Velocity member number and photographic proof of the competing airline’s Gold status level or higher by 15 September 2023.
If all goes well, you’ll get a 3-month Discover Gold trial of Velocity Gold status. You can enjoy Virgin Australia domestic lounge access, priority check-in, boarding and additional baggage allowance. However, you can’t apply for parental pause or access partner elite status with selected hotel or car rental chains.
Want to make it last for 12 months instead? Here’s the shortcut – just earn 80 Status Credits and fly at least one VA sector to extend Gold for a year. Otherwise, you’ll drop to 12 months of Silver status as a consolation prize.
Summing up
Discover Gold is an easy way to see if Velocity Gold status could be good for you if you have Qantas Gold status or higher. Apart from benefits on Virgin Australia, Velocity Gold unlocks perks on other partner airlines including Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, ANA, Etihad, Air Canada and United.

In circumstances where I activated the offer after booking but before travel, will I still get the double SCs?
Thanks
Wondering if booking flex for a date, and then changing it would still qualify for the double?
I booked a flight a couple of weeks ago, for end of February.
Cheers,
Mick.
As you observe many members have a reset date at end February (mine is in just 11 days).
As you also observe (extracting the published) terms, bonus status credits can take 4 weeks to post.
That means that those bonus credits could credit AFTER the review date of members.
IIRC there can be a grace period before status steps down…?
