Image of swimmersROSHNI Ramakrishna Ashrama will be holding a course, in conjunction with Laxmi Bai National Institute of Physical Education, Deemed University (LNIPE) on 25–29 March, 2008. The five-day course will involve a combination of theoretical and practical sessions to thoroughly cover the concepts of Halliwick. A timetable is attached for further information.

We would like to invite you to participate in our upcoming Halliwick course. Halliwick is a specialised technique that assists in teaching children with disabilities to swim. It is a holistic technique based on principles of hydrostatics, hydrodynamics and kinesiology and based on the positive notion that anyone can learn to and enjoy swimming. The course involves learning about a number of areas including the water and the body; teaching and learning; motivation; challenge; activities, games and music; group dynamics; disability equality issues and swimming strokes. Our aim is to train and support local rehabilitation professionals and swimming coaches to use Halliwick with appropriate children in a variety of settings throughout India.

We would like to invite all health professionals, parents and swimming coaches who are interested in extending their knowledge and skills in this area. There are a limited number of places available on this course, and as such, we ask that all those interested in attending complete the attached application form in which they can outline for us why they are interested in attending the course and how they will apply the learnt skills. All applications should be returned by 12/03/08. Acknowledgement of acceptance on the course will then be sent to those who are deemed most appropriate.
