Training
Training is one of the most important activities for ROSHNI – imparting and refreshing knowledge and skills for parents, staff, teachers, paramedical and medical staff in a wide ring around Gwalior, transcending district and state borders.

On 15th December one day training was held on Behaviour Management for teachers and some parents of ROSHNI students from 15 mainstream schools around Gwalior. Dr. V. Bapat, Dr. S. Ayub and Dr. Rajeev Kumar, all gave presentations on the topic and gave the opportunity for the teachers to clear their doubts. The training day was very successful and we hope to provide further training in the near future.

Training and Capacity Building will be our strong focus in the next few years and we hope to expand our training facilities for rehab professionals as well. The dire need for adequately trained professionals is still felt and therefore stress is placed on training middle level workers through the National Trust Care givers Training. Parents workshops are held regularly, on various topics.

ROSHNI has been conducting the Mainstream Teachers Training Programme initiated in 2002, and supported by the Volkart Foundation, Mumbai, since 2004. 50 Government and Private Schools are part of this network of support. 2008 saw a heightened activity in teachers training; ROSHNI staff have been busy facilitating training sessions for teachers and professionals in Gwalior and around Northern India. ROSHNI, Ramakrishna Ashrama partnered UNESCO in the Indian Adaptation of the UNESCO Teachers Guide to Inclusive Education. The broad objectives of the project and the Teachers Guide is to provide mainstream teachers with key facts about various impairments and deprivations, to inform teachers on strategies to adapt the curriculum, classroom and school environment, to overcome the barriers to learning faced by children with special needs, to meet individual educational needs and to encourage teachers to work with families and avail of community health and social services.

One of our future objectives is also to support the growth of the Parent Associations and Self Help Groups, to develop services and reach out to beneficiaries in smaller satellite towns, through mentoring. The ROSHNI Parent Support group has a membership of 30 families and the Maa Sharda Self Help Group (15 Mothers), has been running the Ramakrishna Vidya Mandir school canteen since April 2006. There is a subgroup for Parents of children with Autism (18 members) who meet regularly.
